Winter temperatures in the Sonoran desert are warm. The Painted Desert extends for hundreds of miles along the Little Colorado River east of Grand Canyon, and is a region of dazzling colors. Its sand and blue and crimson by the changing effects of heat and light. The Painted Desert is barren and supports little plant life, except for some sagebrush.
